Common Mattress Myths

20 August 2018

It makes sense to arm yourself with facts about mattresses and how to care for them when buying one. This is because mattress myths are numerous and difficult to differentiate from facts. But not to worry, by the time you are done reading this post, you will easily tell the truth from myths.

A Mattress Is Okay Until It Visibly Sags

Seeing is believing, so we say. When our mattress looks new even though we have slept on them for a decade, we believe they are still okay. The truth is though sagging is a clear indication that your mattress is worn out, you are supposed to replace your mattress when you start experiencing body aches, restless sleep and creaking noises. Studies show that a mattress should be replaced every five to seven years to ensure optimal support and comfort.

A Firmer Mattress Is Always Better

That a firmer mattress is always better is nothing but a myth. Whereas there is nothing bad about firm mattresses, mattress quality depends on how it feels to you in your normal sleeping position. A good mattress offers you comfort and supports your shoulders, hips and back. For this to happen, the mattress doesn7t necessarily have to be firmer.

Expensive Equals Quality

We know what you are thinking; Why am I paying more if it’s not the best quality? Well, most expensive mattresses are of high quality but that is not usually the case. Some brands charge more for their mattresses even though they use cheaper materials. When shopping for a mattress, therefore, look at what is inside and consider comfort.

Regularly Flip and Rotate Your Mattress

Most mattresses nowadays are one sided, which means they should never be flipped. To ensure maximum comfort and reduce body impressions, sleep in a variety of positions and places on the mattress so the entire surface compresses evenly. You should also rotate your mattress regularly.

Replace your mattress every 8 Years years

The truth is you are not supposed to wait for 8 years or any other specific timeline to replace your mattress. If you are no longer sleeping well, turning and tossing throughout the night, chances are you need a new mattress. In short, you will know it’s time to change your mattress depending on how you feel when you wake up.

Showroom Experience Is Enough

Sleeping on a mattress in the showroom isn’t enough to tell you whether the mattress is good enough for you. You can only tell if a mattress is of good quality after sleeping on it the whole night. So be careful before you give a mattress thumbs up in the showroom.

One thing that isn’t a myth is that SuperForm has been providing Kenya with quality mattresses, offering them a healthier, good night’s rest.
